Uploading Newsetters to a Blog Site

In this post you will learn how to use Youblisher to embed a pdf of your class newsletter (or any pdf document for that matter) to your class Blog.

Select  your newsletter and save it as a pdf.
If you are not sure of this step open the file, select file - print - save as pdf.

Watch this Youtube video to get you started.

Next Steps:
  1. Once you have copied the embed code for a large cover go to your blog and sign in.
  2. Click on design on your blog toolbar (right hand side).
  3.  Click on Layout.
  4. Click on Add a gadget.
  5. Scroll down to find HTML/Java Script
  6. Click on the + sign to add it to your page design.
  7. Add a title and paste the html code you copied from Youblisher and save.
  8. View your blog to see if it all looks good. 
  9. You can go back through these steps to adjust it as you wish.

Adding a Photo Slide Show to your Blog

Here is a list of instructions until I can get an update to use screenr.

  1. Log into your blog
  2. Open iphoto-select the photos you wish to use and export them to a folder on your desktop.  I suggest you export them as medium quality, medium size so they are not too big to upload.
  3. Go to http://photopeach.com/.  Create an account if you do not have one, other wise log in with your username and password.
  4. Click on  "Create a new slideshow: Upload photos"
  5. Follow the prompts to find your photos, select them and upload.
  6. You are then prompted to arrange your images in the order you want them in.  Click "Next" when satisfied.
  7. On the next screen give your slideshow a title and a description.  You can add descriptions/captions to each photo here also.
  8. You can choose a soundtrack to accompany it if you wish.  By clicking on the title you can get a preview of the track. Please be mindful of copyright if uploading music.  Click "Finish".
  9. To embed the slide show in your blog, click on the pencil on the right hand side of your slideshow, as in the picture below.
10. Select which html code you want depending on the type of slideshow you want to see, by clicking "copy".  
11. Go to your blog, click on new post, copy the html code into the post box, please make sure you click on the html code tab at the top first.
  Add a title and any caption.  Click Save.  
12. View your blog to see how it looks.  You can go back to Photopeach and edit it as needed but each time you do this you need to reembed the html code into your post area.
13. Have fun experimenting and encourage  your families to make comments on your photos shows.

How Do I Create a New Post?

  1. Click on New Post in the top tool bar
  1. This will take you to the WYSIWYG editor.
  2. On the left handside at the top there are the words "Compose" and "HTML".  "Compose" is for normal typing, HTML shows you the computer language for what you are writing - you don't normally have to worry about that tab, just type in "Compose"mode.
  3. Add a title for the post at the top of the window.
  4. Click in the white box and begin typing your message.
  5. You can highlight the text to change the font, size, appearance  etc.
  6. You can insert a web link to another web page using the "Link" tool.
  7. If you wish to insert a picture or video click on those images in the toolbar and follow the instructions it gives you.
  8. You can align the text, add numbers or bullet points as you wish. 
  9. On the right hand side toolbar you can see the work "Labels" Click on that and add 2-4 words that would best describe the topic of your post.  These separate words would enable searching for your blog more easy.  For this post I would use labels like blogging, Oaklands, Post.  If it is a child authoring the post have them put their christian name as a label.  This will enable parents to view the posts authored by their children more quickly. They should be separated by commas and are usually individual words.
  10. A list of post labels will appear on the side bar of your blog.  Click on a label and you will be taken to the relevant posts.  It is like a mini search engine for your blog.
  11. When you are happy with the appearance of your post click publish.  
  12. Click on "View Blog" to see if it is what you want.
  13. If you need to change anything hover the mouse over the name of the post in the post list and click on "edit", or click on the pencil icon.  Go through the steps above to alter it.
